ESPRESSO POETRY

Coffee-powered musings of a Romanian living in London

Flat white. We're here to be betrayed

by our bodies.

You used to think you're on the same boat.

Partners.

But you, you're a spaceship

fuelled by ancestral aspirations

and all the bits of love you gather

from your charging docks - people

you learn from, begin and end with,

grow and diminish next to.

Whereas your body lags behind.

A mere wooden boat, creaky and nervous,

full of holes

dressed in youth and

make-believe.

Flat white.

A heavy heart and

a heavier mind define me.

A thick, silent tongue

inside of me.

Soul full to the brim

with various types of doubt.

Memories oozing from my brain

struggling to get out intact and

slid in a better brain, maybe.

It's a wonder I don't leave a hole

in the ground I walk on.

It's a wonder I can

even stand at all.

Long black.

it starts in my head

it howls as it gets born

in my eyes, fingers,

in my skin

it's this unstoppable thirst

not to be left behind

by all that's left to try and taste and dream and leave

it climbs out of my mouth

a war declaration

in a language I don't understand

anymore

it makes me get up and run

I'm restless

I'm too young

to not have lived it all.

Drop me a line. Will get back to you after I've had my coffee.
